Job Description
Apply and maintain the food safety program and good agricultural practices (GAP)
- Ensure that all incoming products meet food safety specifications by measuring key parameters and applying current verification programs
- Be responsible for the implementation of food safety and quality assurance standards
- Enforce compliance with established food safety programs and policies to ensure that all products meet the highest food safety standards
- Communicate on an ongoing basis with the quality assurance and production teams, for close collaboration and operational efficiency
- Conduct all appropriate follow-ups regarding quality non-conformities, complaints received that impact operations, and food safety and security
- As a key member of the quality assurance team, contribute to strategic decision-making and continuous improvement projects.
- Initiate and contribute to food safety projects and other specific projects, and follow up with the targeted quality teams or jointly with other departments
- Implement key performance indicators (KPIs) pertaining to the sound management of the team and of operational needs
- Identify food safety training requirements for the company’s managers and employees (new, refresher, continuing, etc.)
- Implement and maintain GAP and food safety documentation
- As needed, update GAP and/or food safety regulations and have them approved
- Train new employees on GAP, food safety, and operational health and safety (OHS) regulations
- Manage the food safety program at the three production sites (Quebec, British Columbia, and Florida)
- Set up the trial program for certain lettuce varieties
- Set up the general testing schedule for the season
- Prepare internal and external audits
- Perform all other related tasks

Knowledge and skills sought
- Bachelor's degree relating to the food industry or other relevant training
- At least 5 years of experience working in a similar position
- Knowledge of the agricultural sector (an important asset)
- Very good knowledge of the MS Office Suite
- Bilingual proficiency in written and spoken French and English
- Working proficiency of spanish
- Availability to travel as required by the operations at the Florida site
- Analytical, organizational, and priority management skills
- Accurate and methodical approach
- Good oral and written communication skills
- Ability to influence team members and skilled at team management
- Valid driver’s licence and passport
